I need a little bit more Information on deciding to get a tattoo?

A few weeks ago I had the idea of possibly getting a tattoo. I was thinking of getting a small cherry blossom branch on the back of my shoulder, (on my back between my side and the start of my neck). I know some information on tattoos such as how they are done, they are more or less permanent, they are done by professionals, and tattoos were usually used by gang members in the past. I am 15 years old, and I'm pretty sure my parents would not allow me to get a tattoo.. I have not brought it up to them, because I'm scared of what they might say. My older brother has asked to get a cross tattoo on his arm, and they didn't let him. Any suggestions on Conversation Starters or any other info on tattoos I need to know before making my decision?

tattoos are a life decision. i'm 17 years old with 4 tattoos. they are permanent. so get something symbolic not just a random idea lol.

i am the middle child, i am the most responsible of my siblings and the more mature. and i hardly ever get in trouble. i paid for my tattoos on my own. i had to point out that i am the more responsible, mature, and respectful child out of us all. and that i was going to pay myself.

i had to tell my parents what kind of tattoos i wanted. and mine are symbolic and meaningful. i am native american so for my first tattoo i got a bear paw on my leg a year ago. its my clan. a couple months after that i asked if i could do more to it if i paid for it. so i got a mandala and feathers put around it. it's beautiful and i don't regret it a bit.

then back in october i asked if i could get another one. bear paws on my chest. once again if i paid for it. i don't regret my decision for this tattoo at all.

my 4th tattoo i did on my own. thats a whole other story. filled with regret haha.

sit down and have a reasonable talk with your parents. if they say no, do not get mad. to them it shows immaturity. be rational about it. tell them why you think you want that specific tattoo. personally i think if it's your body you should be the one to pay for it. and some schools don't like their students to have tattoos that can be seen. especially if you're in sports or things such as band or choir. if you're in drama club or such things as where you may have to dress up in a costume and preform on stage. they may not want your tattoo to be seen. and if it's on your back you should be able to keep it covered. do your research. make sure your state county allows the tattoo shops to work on minors with aprent consent. ask school officials if tattoos are against any codes. find a tattoo shop that does work on minors with parental consent. ask for information. such as going rates, work history, care, sterilization. ask how they sterilize they're equipment. ask to see they're certification. and bring it up with your parents that you've done research on it. and actually do the research. its shows responsibility*. if your parents say no tell them that's fine adn to maybe consider it and ask them 2 weeks later what the official answer is. if they still say no, remember when you're 18 you can do what you want to your body. so dont be irational if you don't get the answer you want.

do not get something tattooed onto your body because you like it at the moment. it should have a story behind it. represent something. not just because you think it's beautiful. but because it has meaning to you.
