How should I get my cartilage pierced- gun or needle?
Me and my friend want to have our cartilage on the top part of our ears pierced. We have heard that having it done with a gun can be dangerous, but aren't sure if the danger is significant, or just a slight possibility. Is it really that much more beneficial to have your cartilage pierced with a needle, as opposed to a gun? Are the risks significant? Is it common for cartilage piercings to go wrong if done with a gun?
needle.
do NOT get it done with a gun for a few reasons..
1. first off most reputable and safe piercing studios wont use a gun for any piercing for the simple reason that a gun cannot be sterlized. so of course disease and infection is spread easily through guns.
2. using a gun for a cartilage piercing shatters the cartilage and can lead to infection and will make it a lot harder for the hole to close up if you ever want it to. and it also CAN lead to nerves in that area dying.
3. the girl that said its less painful and faster is an idiot. a gun hurts a lot more than a needle. its not faster at all.
4. Healing hurts A LOT more with a gun-done cartilage. (Experience)
so to answer your questions...
Are the risks signifcant?
Yes. I had my first cartilage pierced with a gun because I was naive about piercings at the time and I got a massively bad infection and had to go on antibiotics just to get rid of it. The second cartilage i got I had done with a needle and it never once gave me the least bit of trouble. You have a FAR greater chance of getting an infection with a gun. and you have the added risk of getting infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS. is that significant? id say so.
Is it common for cartilage piercings to go wrong if done with a gun?
Yes. LITERALLY every friend ive had that had theirs done with a gun has gotten an infection. One of them ended up in the hospital because of it. No lie.
Is it really that much more beneficial to have your cartilage pierced with a needle, as opposed to a gun?
Let me ask you a question. Is it really that much more beneficial to have it done with a gun? Its not cheaper, faster, or less painful. So why take the added risk?
