"Can you use a non-stretchy blanket binding to edge a machine-knitted blanket or afghan?"?
I'm a new machine-knitter and I've made a few blankets. I'm frustrated with the crazy curling of the edges. I know why it curls and I've tried crocheting the edges, but I'm not too happy with the results. Would it be possible to use a satin or fabric blanket binding to edge the machine-knit blanket/afghan? I'm hoping to hear from someone who has done this or from someone who might provide me a link or article or instructions for doing this. I've spent the last hour searching with Google on my own - no luck. Thanks~
You could use blanket binding for machine knit blankets the same way that you would use if for a hand knit blanket. I would block the work to get it as square as possible. I would run a basing stitch along the edge where I want to sew the binding - adjusting it so that when the piece is finished, everything looks squared up. Pin the binding in place and then using a stretchy nylon in the bobbin, and a good quality thread in the machine, sew the binding in place. Once you have wrapped the binding around the edge, use a zig-zag stitch - in a decorative mode if you have it on your machine - go over the edge of the binding. This will make your finished blanket look professional.
Here is some information about another way to finish your machine knitting - by attaching it back to your machine and knitting along the edge perpendicular to the original layout of the blanket.

Good luck.
