How to go about Disputing a bill that I've never received, yet is on Credit Report?
I have something on my credit report, that was from giving birth to my son, back in 2004. Apparently even though you pay your deductable, there are still random bills that get mailed to you, from dr's, and whatever.
So I have 3 accounts, (one for $25, one for $63, and one for $313) that stem from my son's birth. I only found out about them this year, that they were on my credit report. I had never received a bill for any of these, although the collection agency says they had the correct address........
Do I HAVE to pay these, or do can I dispute not recieving the bill?
*The collection agency lady, said that if I paid them, they would remove the items off of my credit report completely. (I plan on getting a letter stating that, before I pay, if I have to pay).
Should I dispute, how do I go about doing that? (PROVING I DIDNT RECIEVE A BILL. No idea how to do that).... or should I just pay and hope these people will take it off?
These are some really sad answers. Lets start again.
You have a collection agent who is actually trying to work with you! Did she offer to delete the report, or was that part of your negotiation.
Can you pay these bills? These are very small, and paying them off in full will make it easier.
Were these bills supposed to be covered by the insurance company? Has anyone contact them about it?
Here is the battle you are going to have. You are not going to get these debts excused using the "didn't get a bill" excuse. You are going to have to pay them, and hopefully you can recover the money from the insurance company afterward.
So let me say something I rarely ever say here on Yahoo.....
Pay the bills.
Call the collection lady and get IN WRITING an agreement that she will DELETE the items from your report in exchange for an immediate and full payment of these bills.
BE SURE that you get a full and complete validation of this debt. You want to see the bills and documentation. If you are going to be fighting with the insurance company you will need them.
One of the hardest jobs in the world is being a biller for a medical office or hospital. Hundreds of insurance companies, thousands of policies, terrible customer service from the insurance companies. It all adds up to incorrect billing.....and you are the one who catches hell for it.
